A BIT ABOUT ME

Raven Cunningham

My name is Raven, the sole-owner and creator of Made by Raven. I have been proudly creating handcrafted Alaska Native art since 2011.

I am Eyak-Chugach Alaska Native and a life long resident of Cordova, Alaska.

I am a descendant of Alice Clock of Peak Island. My parents are Alicia Long and Scott Madison, my grandparents are Herb and Barb Jensen, and my great grandmother is the late Dolly Scott.

I've been skin sewing since I was about 8/9 years old. When I was a kid I would attend different culture camps throughout my region. However, I started my business in 2011 after I took a Native Arts Class in high school.

The land, water, and the subsistence activities I participate in have always inspired me; it connects me to my ancestors. I aspire to revitalize and preserve my Native way of life.

In addition to my business, I am a wife, a mother, and I work fulltime for my Native Community. I have earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development. I love the great outdoors and take advantage of every opportunity to participate in subsistence activities like fishing, hunting, berry picking and collecting plants and mushrooms. I often share my passion with others in my community and around the State of Alaska. I have taught many classes on the traditional ways of my people, including skin sewing, dyeing with plants and mushrooms, tanning fish skin, sharing the knowledge of plants for food and medicine and much more.
